State of the Map Europe 2023

The State of the Map Europe 2023 conference, organized by the collaborative efforts of the OpenStreetMap Belgium community and TomTom took place from November 10th to 12th in Antwerp, Belgium.  The gathering brought together the most active members of the European OpenStreetMap community, as well as members of the global community and representatives from agencies, NGO’s and big corporations working with OSM. The conference provided a unique platform for us to connect with fellow mappers, developers, and educators.

Meet Raquel  Dezidério Souto, our November 2023 Mapper of the Month. Raquel is a passionate advocate for Free and Open Software, President of IVIDES.org, and a Ph.D. in Geography from Brazil. She participated in our Global training in Portuguese and she empowers others through her "Mapping with OpenStreetMap" course. We asked her to tell us about her journey.

Hailing from Paraguay, Gloria is an accomplished environmental engineer with a passion for GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and cartography. MapRoulette Challenge: Mapping Missing Roads in Democratic Republic of the Congo

From June 7th to June 9th 2023, we organized a three-day mapathon aimed at mapping disconnected roads from the main network in Eastern DRC (Democratic Republic of the Congo), as a challenge in MapRoulette, a microtask platform for collaborative contribution in OpenStreetMap.

The UN Mapper of the month - July 2023

Our Mapper of the Month of July is Pedro André Faria, based in Portugal.  Pedro distinguished himself during the MapRoulette challenge held from June 7th to June 9th, emerging as the winner. His mapping skills were also showcased in 2021 when he secured first place in the UN Map Marathon. Pedro is a highly active member of the community. We asked him some questions about his contributions to the mapping community.

João Pedro de Andrade Eduardo, from Brazil, is our mapper of the month of June 2023. João is a geographer with a master’s degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro. He has distinguished himself during the “OSM and Humanitarian Mapping” training that was conducted in Portuguese.  Read his story!
