Nairobi Drainage Map and Clean — UN Mappers Kenya (April 17–18, 2026)

Our UN Maps Community Ambassadors, Lucy Kago, together with UN Mappers Kenya and Young Lawyers Voice on Climate Change Foundation (YLVOCCF), led the activity "Nairobi Draining Map and Clean" using KoboCollect and ChatMap. They held training and cleaning activity, mapping 110 drainage points.

Los embajadores comunitarios de UN Maps prestarán apoyo a las actividades de cartografía y de acercamiento a la comunidad de UN Maps. Dirigirán y coordinarán la participación de las comunidades locales mediante iniciativas de desarrollo de capacidades y oportunidades de capacitación. A través de este proyecto piloto, esperamos obtener información sobre cómo podemos fortalecer un sistema de datos abiertos sostenible y gestionado por la comunidad, así como explorar la viabilidad de establecer secciones locales de UN Mappers y/o comunidades.

Introducing the UN Maps Community Ambassadors

The UN Maps Community Ambassadors will support mapping and community outreach activities of UN Maps. They will lead and coordinate local community engagement through capacity building and training opportunities. Through this pilot, we hope to gain insights on how we can strengthen a community-owned and sustainable open data, and to explore the feasibility of establishing local UN Mappers chapters and/or communities.

4th Annual Conference: UN Maps Clinics “Enhancing UN Maps – from the field, for the field"

From 1 to 4 December 2025, UNGSC, in collaboration with OICT and the UN Geospatial Network, organized the UN Maps Clinic sessions “Enhancing UN Maps – from the field, for the field”, remotely. Participated by more than 350 UN personnel from 67 UN entities, the UN Maps Clinics provided a series of interactive and hands-on sessions that showcased updates of UN Maps features and applications, demonstrated outputs, and gathered feedback for future enhancement. It co-designed the roadmap of UN Maps to better plan the future steps to deliver coordinated support for UN’s daily operational activities.

The UN Mapper of the Month - November 2025

Our Mapper of the Month for November 2025 is L Kennedy Vaiphei from India. Kennedy began mapping with UN Mappers in late 2024 and is currently pursuing M.Sc. in Applied Geography and Geoinformatics at the Central University of Karnataka. He is our top contributor for the UN Mappers x FAO Agricultural Waterways Mapping in Southern Mauritania Project 3 - he mapped around 573km of waterways and 140km² of farmland areas.

UN Mappers participated in the State of the Map 2025 conference

On October 3rd to 5th, 2025, the global State of the Map (SotM) conference was held in Manila, Philippines and remotely. Attended by nearly 350 participants, the conference gathered diverse contributors and open mapping communities from all over the world - mappers, community activists, open source developers, university researchers, and GIS professionals.

The UN Mapper of the Month - October 2025

Our Mapper of the Month for October 2025 is Rubi Shrestha from Nepal. Rubi started mapping in late 2023 and is part of the Nepal Geomatics Engineering Society (NGES) and Kathmandu University (KU) YouthMappers community. She is our top contributor for the UN Mappers x FAO Agricultural Waterways Mapping in Southern Mauritania Project 4 - she completed 204 tasks covering 1,168 km2 area, and mapped 323 km of waterways.
