The UN Mapper of the month - September 2024

Our Mapper of the Month for September is Włodzimierz Bartczak (Cristoffs in OSM), from Poland.  Włodzimierz distinguished himself during the UN Mappers Mapping Championship held on the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, emerging as the winner for the quality and quantity of his contributions. His mapping skills were also showcased in 2022 when he was awarded as Mapper of the Month. Włodzimierz is a highly active member of the community.

Our Mapper of the Month for August 2024 is Taichi Furuhashi, MAPconcierge on OSM, professor at Aoyama Gakuin University in Japan. Driven by a passion for using mapping to support and empower communities, Taichi has been actively involved in disaster response and resilience efforts since the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami of 2011.

Our Mapper of the Month for July 2024 is Sami Skhab, a cartographer with extensive experience in GIS and Remote sensing from Tunisia. Passionate about using mapping for global good, Sami joined UN Mappers to support humanitarian projects. Sami finds fulfillment in knowing his work helps improve lives worldwide. A look back at the UN Maps training activities

The UN Maps project (initially called Unite Maps) was born in 2019, and the following year included training activities aimed at educating or empowering OSM communities to subsequently support the project in its mapping activities in support of partner peacekeeping missions. Over these four years, the UN Maps crowdsourcing team has organized nearly 40 workshops for about 1,200 people from a wide range of groups and communities, in five different languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese.

Our Mapper of the Month for June 2024 is Angie Lorena Trujillo, an Environmental Engineer and GIS specialist from Colombia who joined our OSM validation course. Angie loves learning, participating in events, and contributing to society's welfare. She finds great satisfaction in technical and mapping work, directly supporting the community. Our Mapper of the Month for May 2024 is Engelbert Steve Modo Levo, a fourth-year engineering student passionate about GIS and spatial analysis from Yaoundé, Cameroon. He has contributed to various UN Mappers projects and has shown a dedication to improving Cameroon's open data.
